Post-mortem: Network outage on 23.10.2025
At 1:33 p.m. on 23.10.2025, there was an almost complete failure of the dataforest network. At 2:01 p.m., connectivity was restored. The cause was a bug in the operating system of our aggregation switches. We have developed extensive measures to prevent such an outage from happening again, which relates not only to the core cause but also to fundamental changes: Because a software bug should not have caused such an impact at this point, and there is therefore a need for improvement, which we explain in this article.
