Future-proof DDoS defense: The partnership between dataforest and Gcore

In times of increasing DDoS attacks with bandwidths of 1 Tbps and more, companies are faced with the challenge of continuously improving their protective measures. The latest Gcore Radar Report impressively shows that threats are increasing every day and that attacks are becoming ever larger and more frequent. For dataforest GmbH, which specializes in defending against large and complex DDoS attacks, the current situation was an occasion to expand its own capacities.

Expanding infrastructure: migration to modern technologies

In mid-2023, dataforest began migrating to a new edge routing concept and converted the important transit ports to cutting-edge 400G technology. The partnership with Gcore played a decisive role here: By providing several 400 Gbit/s ports, dataforest is able to meet the high bandwidth requirements while ensuring an optimal traffic mix as well as maximum redundancy and reliability. “For us, Gcore is a reliable partner that we can always count on,” says Tim Hochmann, managing director of dataforest GmbH. By providing 400G ports and excellent cooperation between the network departments of both companies, dataforest not only remains autonomous in the development of its own “zero-loss” anti-DDoS solution, but also offers tailor-made protection solutions for a wide range of customer needs.

Innovation in DDoS protection: “zero-loss”

Using Gcore's modern infrastructure, dataforest implements innovative “zero-loss” DDoS protection. This technology gives customers uninterrupted access to their services even under extreme loads. The basis for this is a high-performance backbone with a capacity of several terabits per second, which provides a stable and reliable basis for demanding applications.

Efficient support: flexibility and quick response times

Gcore not only impresses with technical stability, but also with high-quality support, which is characterized by exceptional flexibility and fast response times. In the event of performance losses, network optimizations can often be carried out within a few minutes through rapid analyses and targeted measures. This agility makes a decisive contribution to stability and continuous adaptation to the requirements of dynamic scenarios.

Customer focus: individual solutions for dataforest

Gcore's ability to respond to individual requirements was another key aspect of dataforest's collaboration. For example, a dedicated point of presence (PoP) has been set up on the Interxion campus in Frankfurt specifically for dataforest, which is optimally tailored to specific performance requirements. Despite the technical complexity, commissioning went smoothly, without sacrificing bandwidth, flexibility or efficiency. Tim Lauderbach, responsible for the dataforest network, points out: "The central location of our edge routing on the same campus made it possible to further reduce costs and latencies. Our customers therefore benefit from even better and cheaper premium traffic."

Technological synergies: collaboration at BGP Flowspec

The close collaboration between Gcore and dataforest was also reflected in the successful implementation of BGP Flowspec. This technology makes it possible to automatically contain volumetric DDoS attacks at network borders within a few seconds. Thanks to Gcore's global network of over 180 POPs, attacks can be limited at the source, creating additional protection for both networks.
